The Board of Commissioners is the legislative and administrative body of county government. Each commissioner is elected to a four-year term The Commissioners oversee the county’s employees, the budget, and the administration of county programs The Board meets weekly on Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. to transact the county’s business All citizens are welcome to attend the meetings
TREASURER:
The Treasurer’s Office is the custodian of county funds and is responsible for the collection of real estate taxes, fees, receipts, and grants payable to the County. The Treasurer’s Office processes the real estate tax revenues remitted by the 39 municipal tax collectors in Dauphin County and serves as tax collector for county taxes for the City of Harrisburg. The Treasurer’s Office also invests funds in local banks and other financial institutions as directed by the Office of Budget and Finance and approved by the County Commissioners. The Treasurer’s Office collects the 5% Hotel Tax, which in turn is distributed to entities throughout the County for the purpose of attracting and promoting tourism in the area. In addition, the Treasurer’s Office sells hunting, fishing and dog licenses, as well as licenses for Bingo and Small Games of Chance. Dog licenses are available from the Treasurer’s Office, or from any of the more than 20 outlets conveniently located through Dauphin County. The Treasurer is a member of the County Retirement Board, along with the Commissioners and County Controller.
CORONER:
The Coroner is elected to a four-year term to investigate sudden, unexplained deaths, accidental deaths, homicides, suicides and other deaths of questionable circumstances.
The Coroner plays a crucial role in gathering forensic evidence for the criminal justice system in Dauphin County.

PROTHONOTARY:
The Dauphin County Prothonotary is elected to a four-year term to record and file all legal papers related to the civil court. These documents may nclude arbitration hearings, argument court and civil trials, building agreements, change of names, issue of divorce certificates, and landlord/tenant disputes.

The Recorder of Deeds Office is stores certified copies of real property land records, deeds, mortgages, satisfactions, releases, assignments, agreements, easements, powers of attorney, plot plans, oaths,bonds, and commissions for notary publics, county officers, as well as
documents pertaining to real property. All records, with the exception of armed service discharges, are open as public records.
All papers presented for recording are ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS properly executed, signed, dated and acknowledged before a notary public.

The Dauphin County Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans’ Court is held by one person elected to a four-year term. The office serves many purposes: probate of wills of deceased residents of Dauphin County; appointment of estates of individuals without a will; receipt of inheritance taxes; applications for marriage licenses; petitions for adoption; parental rights issues; and appointment of guardianships for incapacitated individuals.
Clerk of Courts:
Established by the PA Constitution, the clerk of court is an officer of the court and an independently elected official serving a four-year term. The main office is primarily responsible for recording, maintaining, and processing criminal and juvenile records for the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas. Other responsibilities include assessing court imposed costs and fines, and licensing private detectives. Administrative duties include preparing prison commitments, bail, processing motions and petitions, summary appeals, and appeals to the PA Superior and Supreme Courts.
The majority of office business is conducted pursuant to state law and PA Rules of Court. Most of the work is a direct result of cases bound over for court from the county’s sixteen magisterial district judges and from dispositions in the courtroom.

The Dauphin County District Attorney is elected to a four-year term as the chief law enforcement officer in the county. The District Attorney oversees an office of 22 deputies, 13 detectives, and over 20 support personnel, which handles over 6,500 cases per year in the County Court of Common Pleas and the appellate courts.
This office works closely with federal, state, and local police agencies in the County in the investigation, prosecution, and prevention of crime. The District Attorney coordinates with the Victim/Witness Assistance Program to ensure that victims of crime have a strong voice in court.
The office interacts with the legal community, public, court administration, and local, county and state governmental agencies regarding matters related to the county criminal court system.

The Dauphin County Sheriff’s Department is an arm of the Court. The Sheriff, elected to a four-year term, oversees the transporting of prisoners from the Dauphin County Prison to the Courthouse, securing the interior of the courtroom, and serving court papers.
The Sheriff protects citizens from dangerous prisoners and safeguards against escapes. Additionally, the Sheriff issues permits to citizens wishing to carry a concealed gun.
