Marsico Responds to Mayor Thompson’s Fiscal Plan
8/3/2011
HARRISBURG –Rep. Ron Marsico (R-Lower Paxton) issued the following statement today in response to the recent release of Harrisburg Mayor Linda Thompson’s fiscal recovery plan:
“I think it is ludicrous for the mayor to now be, basically, extorting the state, Dauphin County and the bond insurance company. Her threats to implement a commuter tax if she doesn’t get what she wants are completely out of line. This is simply not the way to resolve an issue as huge as what the city of Harrisburg is facing.
“I think the mayor needs to take a step back and realize that you cannot solve problems of this magnitude by bullying the people from whom you need the most assistance. And the bottom line is that I will not let her put the burden of the city on the shoulders of the hard workers who live in this area of the state and commute to Harrisburg every day.
“I have said it before and I will say it again, if implemented, a commuter tax would be devastating to all of the residents of Pennsylvania’s south central region who are employed within Harrisburg’s city limits. Therefore, I will continue to push for passage of my legislation, House Bill 167, which would prevent Harrisburg from implementing a commuter tax, in order to protect all of these hard-working Pennsylvanians.”
